| The
Sustainability Committee formed on campus involves staff,
faculty and students who seek to meet the goals of the Climate Commitment
Challenge by measuring our current baseline greenhouse gas emissions
and reducing them by 2% per year. Carteret Community College joined
the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher
Education (AASHE) www.aashe.org which
provides wonderful teaching materials regarding sustainability issues
and links you with other campuses.
The
Green Initiative Fund
A fund with the college
foundation began with an initial Polar Plunge fundraiser
in January 2008. We are also selling all recycled Aluminum on
campus as an ongoing source of income. We are working with our
Board to purchase a solar water heater for the McGee building
on campus.

The third annual POLAR
Plunge fund raiser for the solar water heater will be held on
Wednesday, January 27, at 12:30 PM, with folks gathering in the
Student Center before plunging into Bogue Sound in front of the
CMAST Building.
Sustainability
Awareness Month
Every January is Sustainability
Awareness Month. It coincides with a national Focus the
Nation www.focusthenation.org
effort on college campuses to educate across the curricula about
climate change.
